Kris
Drumm, M.S.W. has
been working as a facilitator, social group worker,
advocate, counselor, program developer, trainer and
activist for 25 years. Her work has encompassed domestic
violence, bias crime, lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender
rights, issues of aging and ageism, death
and dying.
As Women's Program Coordinator and
Group Worker at Senior Action in a Gay Environment
in New York City, Kris created and directed
"Old Queers Acting Up", a theater ensemble
of LBGT seniors to educate the public and
the community on issues of ageism and homophobia.
Throughout
her career, Kris has worked with victims of domestic
violence and as an educator on the issue on local, state
and national levels. As Domestic Violence Program
Coordinator at the NYC Gay & Lesbian Anti-Violence
Project, she provided individual and group counseling
to battered lesbians, gay men and people of transgender
experience. In addition, Kris has provided sensitivity
and cultural competence training to many agencies.
Kris's
undergraduate studies focused on the use of educational
theater and along with Dr. Telesco has presented
several sociodrama workshops and presentations exploring
the dynamics of ageism, homophobia, trans-phobia,
racism, sexism and "able-ism" using drama
techniques.
Kris
considers herself to be an Affirmation Artist and
uses positive imagery in her work with people. She
is a poet, writer, sculptor and drummer who believes
in the power of the mind to change, create and direct
the conditions of our lives.
As
a writer, Kris has also collaborated in the creative
writing of music, some of which has been recorded.
One song which you may be familiar with is "Mother
Beat", a poem put to music and performed by
Ubaka Hill on the album "Shapeshifters" by
Ladyslipper Productions.
She
is a published author of papers and articles on Domestic
Violence, Social Work with groups, and working with
elder LGBT people.
As
Executive Director of WOLFBEAR
Institute, Kris is working towards the liberation
of all people, on all levels of being. Her spirituality,
knowledge, strength and devotion infuse all of WOLFBEAR's
endeavors.
